The Charles Lea Center is proud to be a partner in the innovative My Forever Home project, an inclusive housing initiative designed to help people with disabilities live independently while enjoying the connection and support of a welcoming community.

Located in Smithfield, NC, My Forever Home opened its first homes earlier this month and is creating opportunities for individuals with disabilities to build lives rooted in independence, dignity, accessibility, and belonging.

The development represents a forward-thinking approach to community living, bringing together individuals with disabilities, families, advocates, community leaders, and housing partners to expand independent living options. The project is designed to provide safe, accessible homes within a vibrant neighborhood where residents can fully participate in community life while maintaining autonomy and choice. The Charles Lea Center is excited to be providing services to many of the people living in My Forever Home.

"The Charles Lea Center believes everyone deserves the opportunity to live as independently as possible and to be connected to a community where they feel valued and supported," said Shannon Childress, Chief Program Officer. "We are proud to be part of a project that reflects those values and creates new pathways for individuals with disabilities to achieve their goals."

The My Forever Home initiative demonstrates what is possible when organizations, developers, families, and community partners work together to create inclusive solutions. By increasing access to quality housing and fostering meaningful community connections, the project helps ensure that people with disabilities have greater opportunities to live, work, and thrive in the communities they call home.

As My Forever Home continues to grow, the Charles Lea Center remains committed to being part of this project which supports innovative efforts that promote independence, inclusion, and a brighter future for people with disabilities.
